This 1930s babe was someone else's project - and then MY project, and I am SO proud of the restoration and how it stunning it is now. A sleek lined early 30s gown of silk satin, it gleams in a brilliant, saturated cobalt blue. The sleeves are a sleek dolman style with a unique point below the line of the shoulder and incredibly fitted cuffs. The neckline is simple, closing with linked buttons. The bodice is bloused, fitting more generously than one would expect thanks to the deep sleeves. In contrast, the skirt is slim and sleek as can be, with long darts shaping the back, and a skirt that slightly trained, longer at each side of the back. This is MADE for wearing with a decadent belt. It closes on the wrong side - the right side, with a long metal zipper that actually extends to the curve of the arm.

This was originally a wedding gown from the early 1930s. The original owner (this is an estate piece) later altered it, around the late 30s, making the back the front, adding a long side zipper on the right, and mostly removing the train. She then added all manner of ribbon and flowers - many real! - to it with heavy stitches, gathered the front up, and put some atrocious lace at the collar and cuffs. The flowers stained it and even caused color transfer from the ribbons in the years it was stored, and in removing them, I came to remove EVERYTHING she had added, as I got to look at the dress more forensically. After cleaning it, I realize that I was never going to get all the color transfer and staining out, and I chose this brilliant cobalt blue as an era-authentic color to dye it. It is not perfect, but it is GORGEOUS, and as close to authentic and its original style as it was possible to take it.

Any accessories shown are for inspiration only and are not included unless original to the garment, which will be specifically described in the text above.

✂-----Measurements

This dress is slim between the waist and hips, and best for someone with narrow hips, but has deep sleeves that account for the greater room at the bust.

Bust: 38"
Waist: 25.5"
Hips: 36"
Length at front: 58"
Length at center back: 62"
Length at back sides: 65"

Label: None Present, homemade
Material: Silk Satin
Condition: Good, as is, with alterations and restoration work

As noted, this gown was previous altered from its original style, and has been restored and dyed by me. VERY close up you can finds some subtle color variation where the stains remain under the color, and held at an angle to the light, you can see some lighting of the silk fibers that's probably from dying. The zipper is functionally backwards, and if it were me, I'd have it removed and put in a hook closure on the left. There EXTREMELY faint evidence of underarm staining - you really have to look for it. There's two small spots above the waist on the left, and one below. Held to the light, one can see about two dozen tiny pinholes in the skirt, mostly on the left side, caused by the heavy stitching used. About six can be seen from the exterior, but none are significant overall. The dress has been priced with awareness of the flaws and the work done.

Frequently Asked Questions

May I reserve an item or put an item on Layaway?

Yes, and you've got options! Klarna is a service available for all items on Etsy to buyers from some countries. Additionally in-shop layaway is available for items over $100. Items between $100 and 300.00 may be set up on a two part, 30 day layaway. Items over $300 may be put on three part layaway plan, with length determined by value. Items over $1000 may be put on four part plan, typically for 90 days. Layaway cannot be combined with sale prices, coupons or other discounts. Customers may put more than one item on Layaway, but the prices cannot be combined to extend the duration.

There is a 2-hour waiting window on new listings before they may be put on Layaway or Reserve. You may write on a new listing to be put in the layaway queue.

The measurement look larger than the mode/dress form. Is this item pinned?

Yes, it is. All items larger than the form are pinned too represent their accurate fit and shape. We are careful to accurately represent the actual cut of the garment. Don't rely on the size of the model in any way.

I have an issue, may I return an item?

I allow returns or exchanges in only rare occasions - only when I have made an egregious error.

You must contact us with 48 hours of receiving your order if you have an issue, and if an exchange is approved, it must be sent within 48 hours after our communication. Items purchased and worn for special events may not be returned - we are not a rental facility. No refunds are issued based on issues with the fit of a garment, please measure carefully and feel free to make inquiries if you need help with sizing.

Vintage lingerie cannot be returned or exchanged, due to its intimate nature. Clearance items, items noted "as-is" and items sold on layaway may not be returned or exchanged.

Are Accessories Included?

Only accessories original to the piece and specifically described in the listing are included with purchase. All contrasting belts, necklaces, scarves or other items on mannequins or models are for inspiration only and are not included.
