Vintage Edwardian Wedding Gown - c. 1911 Cotton and Silk Brocade Striped Gown with Watteau Train, Hollow Pearls, Mixed Laces

A spectacular and rare Edwardian wedding gown or tea dress, this beauty is draped romance. A 1911 style, the silhouette is quintessential to it's time - a high waisted bodice with elegant draping, and a layered skirt. We don't have the right underpinnings, so this isn't perfectly representative of the original intended silhouette. The primarily material is a lingerie cotton with woven stripes of lustrous silk brocade in pale blue throughout. The bodice has an internal lining of cotton and silk. Where it is exposed, it features a texturally unique lace - it has almost a boucle effect. The striped sleeves, finished in gossamer fine lace, are attached to this underlayer. The gathered surplice of striped material is worn over it, gathered in pinch pleats into the fitted waistband. At the back, a silk watteau train is suspended at the back of the shoulders. The skirt features a fairly full base layer with two petals that run from the center front, to the sides of the back where they meet the body with three deep pleats, that create the bud like shape you see here. The design elements are all ringed with hollow glass pearls, around the neck, across the shoulders, down the surplice layers, and all the way down the petals of the skirt, running down the center, then along the pointed hem. This closes with a complicated assortment of hooks and snaps - you'll need someone to help you do up the closures.

This dress would ideally be worn with a corset of its era. This flattens the bust and creates a columnar shape with subtle curve - not as dramatic as the S curve of the earlier Edwardian era.

I am delighted to report that beautiful gown is very wearable, although of course, it should be worn with care. My condition assessment has been painstaking - please do not mistake my care and attention to small flaws as meaning the gown is in worse shape that it is. It is truly lovely.
The dress has not been hand laundered, as I am concerned about the finish washing away on the hollow pearls. The fabric is surprisingly bright and still feel fresh though, sturdy but soft without any hint of dryness from age or storage.
When I photographed this, there were 19 missing pearls on the bodice, and 56 on the skirt. I've since acquired some VERY closely matching pearls from the period. They are slightly larger, so I have moved some original pearls up from the petal hem to place in the most visible areas, and put the larger pearls along the lowest point of the side. Three pearls at the back are missing their seed bead framing, and four are missing it on the lower right hem.
As this has not been cleaned, there's still some spotting to note. There are some VERY tiny pin prick speckles - a cluster on the left hip, a larger group lower on the left front side, two little dots by the pearls just under the waist, and a few in the bust, hidden in the folds. (All photographed.) The silk lining is yellowed at the underarms. There are some stains at about floor level on the watteau train, also shown. This beauty looks amazing on, and remains a very special piece for a bride or collector.

May I reserve an item or put an item on Layaway?
Yes, and you've got options! Klarna is a service available for all items on Etsy to buyers from some countries. Additionally in-shop layaway is available for items over $100. Items between $100 and 300.00 may be set up on a two part, 30 day layaway. Items over $300 may be put on three part layaway plan, with length determined by value. Items over $1000 may be put on four part plan, typically for 90 days. Layaway cannot be combined with sale prices, coupons or other discounts. Customers may put more than one item on Layaway, but the prices cannot be combined to extend the duration.
There is a 2-hour waiting window on new listings before they may be put on Layaway or Reserve. You may write on a new listing to be put in the layaway queue.

You must contact us with 48 hours of receiving your order if you have an issue, and if an exchange is approved, it must be sent within 48 hours after our communication. Items purchased and worn for special events may not be returned - we are not a rental facility. No refunds are issued based on issues with the fit of a garment, please measure carefully and feel free to make inquiries if you need help with sizing.
Vintage lingerie cannot be returned or exchanged, due to its intimate nature. Clearance items, items noted "as-is" and items sold on layaway may not be returned or exchanged.
