1920s Dress - Rare Antique Early 20s Drop Waist Silk Dress in Orange Watercolor Print with Asymmetric Wrapped Skirt and Sashing

A breathtaking early 1920s dress made of a lustrous silk. The richly autumnal floral watercolor print is used down the length of the fabric, rather than the width, allowing for this lushly gathered and wrapped asymmetric skirt. The silk has a sharkskin effect, with the browns looking golden bronze from one angle and dark chocolate from the other. Shirring is used generously to gather the wrap of the skirt, and create the cascade of poufs at the back left hip. This closes all along the left side of the drop waist bodice with eleven sturdy poppers (snaps.) The wrap waist is supported on an internal petersham band that replaces an original shattering silk support. A truly marvelous party dress, circa 1922.

This dress is exceptionally sturdy, clean and ready to wear. The original waistband was silk that was shattering away, and since it supported the wrapping of the waist, I had to replace it with a period correct petersham, that is much sturdier. I reattached the waist construction with a careful hand stitch, but even the original was not 100% tidy in this effort, and the stitching matches the original placements as carefully as I could. There's a few ghost stitching marks around the waist. The back has two little scuffs below the v neckline, and one pinhole at the back left. I find no other issues to note! The silk taffeta rustles, but is not at all dry, it was clearly well stored.

Yes, and you've got options! Klarna is a service available for all items on Etsy to buyers from some countries. Additionally in-shop layaway is available for items over $100. Items between $100 and 300.00 may be set up on a two part, 30 day layaway. Items over $300 may be put on three part layaway plan, with length determined by value. Items over $1000 may be put on four part plan, typically for 90 days. Layaway cannot be combined with sale prices, coupons or other discounts. Customers may put more than one item on Layaway, but the prices cannot be combined to extend the duration.
There is a 2-hour waiting window on new listings before they may be put on Layaway or Reserve. You may write on a new listing to be put in the layaway queue.
The measurement look larger than the mode/dress form. Is this item pinned?
Yes, it is. All items larger than the form are pinned too represent their accurate fit and shape. We are careful to accurately represent the actual cut of the garment. Don't rely on the size of the model in any way.
I have an issue, may I return an item?
I allow returns or exchanges in only rare occasions - only when I have made an egregious error.
You must contact us with 48 hours of receiving your order if you have an issue, and if an exchange is approved, it must be sent within 48 hours after our communication. Items purchased and worn for special events may not be returned - we are not a rental facility. No refunds are issued based on issues with the fit of a garment, please measure carefully and feel free to make inquiries if you need help with sizing.
Vintage lingerie cannot be returned or exchanged, due to its intimate nature. Clearance items, items noted "as-is" and items sold on layaway may not be returned or exchanged.
