Item 1 - Incredible 1950s ShowGirl or Dance Costume
A phenomenal early 1960s custom made dance costume, in brilliant, shimmering peacock colors. This piece was made for performance. It is built onto a 1960s era long line balconette bra. The body of the piece is two layers - a woven nude power mesh under a seafoam and silver textural brocade, definitely a costume fiber, with some stretch. The chiffon is bright in chartreuse, peacock blue, and teal. The latter two are nylon, the chartreuse is a rayon chiffon. Hand worked beads and sequins outlined the diving boned neckline, and the edges of the top teal layer of skirt. The second layer, in blue and chartreuse, is a tear away removable style, attaching with heavy snaps. The long line closes with hook and eyes, and the exterior closes with an incredibly heavy Conmar metal zipper.

Built in bra is not marked, but is in the 32 range. The cups are 6" wide and 4 3/8" high through the center.

This piece is sturdy, and can be worn and even danced in, and displays beautifully. The most significant flaw is that each side of the rayon chartreuse chiffon has shattered tears, although they aren't naturally seen when worn, and I suspect this is where the original dancer grabbed it to tear away the under over and over. There's also repairs to the chiffon around the base of the zipper, probably from tugging too hard to zip it up. The long line it is built on is worn out, tanned with age and tired, relaxed elastic. Because the exterior is so sturdy, this doesn't affect wear, but it could stand to be partially replaced through the back and sides if you mean to wear it often. There's a small spot on the left side of the bust, and a few more spots and some pulls around the hips of the top layer. I have not cleaned this piece.
Item #2 - Altered 1950s dress
Navy blue and white polka dots on heavy rayon faille. It's sturdy, but was altered by a theater or previous owner. Nicely made, with a built in internal bodice for bust support - no bones, but a good cotton liner and grosgrain band under the bust. The skirt is slim at front and fantastically draped at back, with an internal support featuring five tiers of pleated cotton for support - the last tier does sometimes peek out a bit. There's a tacked down bow at the back. This closes on the side with a long metal zipper

This dress has been dry cleaned. As noted, it's been altered. At back, the tacked down bow has come away on the back left, and one can see the exposed altered waist seam it's there to cover. The seam has popped away from the zipper at the waist area. A wounded bird, but a fun, sexy and very wearable one.

Items purchased and worn for special events may not be returned - we are not a rental facility.
